Today’s draw is all about doing the work and getting it done. It’s easy when you’ve been working hard to see only the work, to think it will never end, to think maybe you’re stuck in a certain way of doing things and that’s just how it is. It’s also easy to think that the world is balanced on a good-versus-evil axis, and if something bad happens to you, you must have done something wrong, or maybe somebody’s out to get you, or somehow the gods hate you. But no, They don’t, and it’s not a good use of your brain power to waste time thinking They do, or that somehow They’ve got it in for you, or whatever other processes happen when we go through a run of bad luck. The truth according to this draw is that if you focus too hard on the details, you will lose sight not only of the bigger picture, but also of ways to help and protect yourself that you really need right now. Working hard on this plane translates into working hard on That plane, the Spiritual plane, and doing good for yourself and others Over There translates into doing good for yourself and others on this plane. Divine Justice is not the same as human justice, so don’t expect it to be. Sometimes sacrifices aren’t rewarded on this plane or That one, at least not in the way we’d like them to be, and you have to just let them be “Learning Experiences” in the process of getting the work done. Keep those boundaries up, keep one eye on the skies, and git ‘er done.
Today’s draw calls us to focus, hard, despite everything else that’s going on around us. You might be having family or personal drama going on; struggles that you’ve had for a looooooong time, issues that have yet to be resolved with others. Focus anyway. Lake Town was burning to the ground around him while Bard the Archer focused on the weak spot that would ultimately bring down Smaug the Destroyer. If Bard had lost focus for a moment, if he had paid attention to the screaming, the crashing and smashing, the roaring of the dragon, instead of his one point of focus, all would have been lost. Keep moving. Acknowledge or be aware of threats and dangers, be aware of distractions, but don’t give in to them. You’re not a child/teen/young adult any more. You’re a grown up with grown up responsibilities. Other people are going to do their other-people thing. They’re acting from their fears, their nightmares, their karma. It’s not personal. Have compassion as much as you can for them in their process (don’t be condescending; you’re on a human journey too and need compassion and forgiveness as much as they do); but don’t engage their shadows. And for god’s sake don’t take on their pain. Empathize, absolutely, but from behind a safe boundary.
Today’s draw is about losing what you have. Ok, so maybe what you have was gained through being greedy (looking at it in a negative light), and maybe not. Maybe you’ve been foolish and more than a little spendthrifty. Well, here’s your warning: stop wasting your resources, both financial and of the heart (but mostly financial). Let go of what can go. It’s time to start running a tighter ship. If you need help with this and have an ancestor practice, and you should, talk to them. Ask them for help in managing your money better, or how to better deal with sacrifice and deprivation. These are lean times for many people, and it’s important to make the best of what you’ve got right now and let go of what’s dead. Focus on your goals and what your real needs are, and let the rest go. And on a hopeful note, be sure to look carefully at your situation: is it really as bad as all that, or as good as all that? Either way, it’s best to know the truth. So do what you can to clarify your situation and your resources. What have you got? Where are the leaks? What’s not pulling its weight? What’s costing you more than it’s worth?
