Daily Draw: Special Reading for Imbolc: The Candle and The Well

Today is Imbolc, a sacred midwinter festival of fire and the stirrings of new life, a foreshadowing of Spring to come. In honor of Brigid, the Holy Mother of Ireland and great goddess of fire and water, today’s daily draw is “The Candle and the Well,” the light we carry before us in the darkness and the source of our creativity. Our Candle is the Five of Cups, a card of sorrow but also of moving on. The wisdom here is to keep moving forward no matter what emotional waves are crashing around you. You can’t see the tendrils of life weaving their tiny newborn way around you yet, and that’s ok. It’s a time of unknowing, uncertainty about the future, and unawareness of where we stand among gods and men. Nevertheless we’re called to keep moving. Record the sorrows (and the joys), and bring them out to be heard and acknowledged. Let yourself write a sad song or poem, or make drawings that symbolize the losses you’ve suffered in your life. The Well is the Knight of Pentacles, the slowest-moving of the Knights but the one who most fiercely works to get things done. Direct your energies toward solutions because you have a deep well of them. Use your creative passions to work out how to use your immense talents, and let those swords become plowshares because plowshares are much more useful right now. Dig deep, and don’t give up. Listen for the voice of Brigid on the wind; She’s whispering power words to help you heal, prepare, and thrive.

Daily Draw: Eight of Swords (Geirrod & Loki) and Strength (Nidhogg)

Today’s draw is about being stuck, but knowing how to get out of it … you just don’t want to do it. It’s an ugly situation all around, and you’ll have to break a few things to make good your escape, but you can fix those later. You’re strong enough to manage it, so keep your eyes on the prize and move forward. Use your words, your voice, and speak your truth from the heart. Keep moving, and do the best you can. Do the hard thing, and do it well. You’re going to keep getting goaded at until you do it anyway, so might as well do it and get it over with.

Daily Draw: Honeybee, The Golden Age (Wholeness), Frigg (Soul Magic)

As we approach the end of the year (Wiccan style), we can see that a new age is coming. New life is right around the corner after the battles of the past are done. Be on the lookout for the new opportunities that arise, and listen to the voices of the Sacred both without and within. Take nourishment from the world around you and be honest about where that nourishment is coming from: the truth is that none of us can survive alone, and none of us can survive if the planet dies (or, well, actually, the planet will survive without us; what will die, what is already dying, is an environment that enables us to live and thrive here). It’s past time we got on board about that. Things are changing, and we must change with them because we are inextricably linked. There is no “if” or “maybe” about it. A new world is coming, not only for our individual selves as the new year approaches, but for us as global citizens of the Mother Planet. We’re already seeing tremendous changes in climates all over the world, and those changes aren’t passing phases. This IS the new reality. Time to open our eyes. Time to deliberately step off the paths of exceptionalism and onto the one path of Mother, however that manifests for you. Dig deep. You are not alone, so it’s time to stop acting like you are.

Daily Draw: Gargoyle (Guardian), Loki’s Punishment (Guilt), Oski (Fulfillment)

Today’s draw is a warning to be careful at work today: shield yourself as much as you can against getting thrown under the bus by others or being the subject of their tricks. Don’t take on guilt for that which isn’t your fault. You are shielded and protected from trouble so far by your own good work, but don’t be afraid to move on if you need to. Goodness is growing beneath your feet and will be there for you when you need it. It’s ok to hide if you feel threatened. Let your sacred protectors do their job.

Daily Draw: Crescent Moon & Mercury Rising

Intuition. It’s all about intuition today. Literally. Look at this thing: Ogham Stave is Hazel, which indicates intuition. Crescent Moon, which indicates intuition. The upside-down Spade indicating turning off the mind and turning on the non-mind. The rune Os, which is the God Voice speaking through the diviner. Mercury, the Divine Messenger. And the Rider, which indicates signs and messages. Pay attention to your words because they are the words of the gods speaking through you. Pay attention to your thoughts and ideas because they are your intuition guiding you. Note and observe as much as you can. Don’t try to understand it all. Just make note of it because today is a day when all signs point to … well, signs. And they’re everywhere.

Daily Draw: Wings & Snowflakes

Today’s draw is a warning against slipping away into daydreams as an escape from whatever you’re facing. Don’t do it. Listen to the inner guidance urging you on: it’s the God Voice within you bringing you courage and strength. Face what you need to face as best you can. Be brave, take as many deep breaths as you need to without hyperventilating, and go for it. Do your work. Focus. Let distractions fall away today. Call on your protective allies to help you. There will be time to let yourself drift, to engage in fantasy. But ComiCon is over, and it’s time to get back to reality. Heads up!

Daily Draw: The Mask & The Tree

Don’t kid yourself, people: life is much more than what meets the eye. If you think we’re born, we live, and we die and that’s it, you’re mistaken. There are cycles within cycles going on here, both ancient and modern, and you, we, are connected to everything that has gone before us and will come after us. The gods are speaking through us, through the natural world, through the still, small voices that are getting louder. We are called to listen. For real, people. I have a sack of 33 runes that I draw from every morning, and while I usually only pull out one, today I felt it was important to pull out two. And the two I pulled out (Os and Ansuz) both deal with Os, The God Voice, the mouth, communication (one is from the elder Futhark and the other is from the younger). You have immeasurable wealth in your lineages, and great wisdom coming to you. You, we, are human and divine. Time to start acting like it.
