Today’s energy is like when everything goes wonky and stays wonky and weird and there’s just nothing for it but to deal with it as best you can. Instead of there being this great, full flow, connections may be difficult and wracked and more stress-infused than you’re used to. You may find yourself coming up against rules and regulations that you’d either forgotten about or never knew about in the first place. There also may be blocks in the path, obstructions to the rightful flow of things that keep energies from manifesting the way you want them to. Go within. Let yourself find peace and space in these wonky, weird moments. Remember to engage in your meditation practice if you have one, and if you don’t, use these stressful moments as opportunities to practice mindfulness. Breathe slowly and just focus on your breathing. Let everything else just be how it is, with no need to fix or change anything. Just breathe and let happen what’s happening. Chances are good the energies will shift soon, and the flow will be restored. Let yourself have some peace until that happens, if you can. You may surprise yourself with what occurs to you in these peaceful moments.
So, if you’re at all like me, you’ve been using this Pisces time to indulge in anything and everything food-and-drink-wise: cake, wine, french fries, bread, all the usual suspects, and of course sugar in absolutely everything. I mean, hey, things are hard right now and I’m a Pisces baby, so indulgence has been my middle name. But today’s reading is saying it’s time to stop that. That kind of ingesting isn’t nourishing in any real way, and it’s damaging to the body in ways that might not be easy to see just yet but believe me the damage is being done. Get back to balanced eating, if you’re not doing it already: more vegetables, more water, as many vitamins and minerals as you can get, and maybe even a little exercise. Make a game out of it. Come on, we’re creative people, so finding a way to make healthy living fun and engaging should be easy — or, well, ok, maybe not easy exactly, but at least in our wheelhouse. Take advantage of your innate creativity and use your skills for your own highest good.
Today is Imbolc, a sacred midwinter festival of fire and the stirrings of new life, a foreshadowing of Spring to come. In honor of Brigid, the Holy Mother of Ireland and great goddess of fire and water, today’s daily draw is “The Candle and the Well,” the light we carry before us in the darkness and the source of our creativity. Our Candle is the Five of Cups, a card of sorrow but also of moving on. The wisdom here is to keep moving forward no matter what emotional waves are crashing around you. You can’t see the tendrils of life weaving their tiny newborn way around you yet, and that’s ok. It’s a time of unknowing, uncertainty about the future, and unawareness of where we stand among gods and men. Nevertheless we’re called to keep moving. Record the sorrows (and the joys), and bring them out to be heard and acknowledged. Let yourself write a sad song or poem, or make drawings that symbolize the losses you’ve suffered in your life. The Well is the Knight of Pentacles, the slowest-moving of the Knights but the one who most fiercely works to get things done. Direct your energies toward solutions because you have a deep well of them. Use your creative passions to work out how to use your immense talents, and let those swords become plowshares because plowshares are much more useful right now. Dig deep, and don’t give up. Listen for the voice of Brigid on the wind; She’s whispering power words to help you heal, prepare, and thrive.

You have every right to be proud of yourselves, my dears, but don’t get too carried away: the work is not done yet and there’s still a long way to go. But you’ve got more strength in you than you perhaps realized, and you have what it takes to put those ideas into action. Keep dreaming, but keep the umbrella handy because rain is coming (for good or ill). Your manifestations are alive and coming home to roost (as it were). Look to your gods and ancestors for help, and keep going.

Don’t let your fears and worries block you from exploring new avenues, my dears. Explore new ideas. Take a chance on new ways of thinking and doing things. You might be surprised. Have faith in your ability to survive and thrive, and start making your own churches and pilgrimages. Decide for you what will work and what you want. Decide what works best for you in terms of rules and regulations, and then build on that. Flow with what makes you happy, and trust your guiding instincts–and if you work with gods and/or other sacred energies, trust them to guide you as well. Don’t block yourself off from happiness or the potential of happiness in the name of “protecting yourself.” That’s less helpful than you might think.
Don’t rush today, my friends. Slow down and do it right the first time. Get through it the right way. The gods and guardians are with you and they’re watching. Be mindful and do your tasks with integrity and honesty. You’re not ready to move on yet–you’re on your way, yes, but not ready to leap yet. Keep feeding those creative fires and doing what you need to do to build a solid foundation for your future. Keep building, and hang on.
Take a deep, cleansing breath, my dears: you’re free. The doors are open, the gates unlocked. Justice has been served for whatever crimes you’ve committed, and now The Wheel has turned (and it’s in your favor). Do whatever your creative minds want to do, and go with the flow. Create your magic, and try to avoid the same mistakes you made last time. Remember that Justice is always watching, and nobody ever gets away with anything. We all pay for our transgressions, whether in this life or the next. So use this time to learn, incorporate what you’ve learned, and be better.
